Day 1 – Arrival in Negombo

Arrive at Colombo airport and transfer to Negombo for a gentle start to your journey. Spend the afternoon by the sea, taking in the coastal breeze and settling into your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a short walk along the beach as fishing boats return with their daily catch. Rest well and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Travel north to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first ancient capital. Explore sacred stupas, monasteries, and the revered Sri Maha Bodhi Tree. Walk among centuries-old ruins that reflect the island’s deep Buddhist heritage. End the day with a quiet evening surrounded by history and spirituality.

Depart from Anuradhapura and travel east toward Trincomalee. Arrive at either Nilaveli or Uppuveli where white sands meet calm blue seas. Spend the afternoon unwinding at your seaside retreat. Watch the sunset with your feet in the sand before settling in for the night.

Climb to the clifftop Koneswaram Temple and admire panoramic ocean views. Learn about the temple’s deep spiritual significance and legends of Lover’s Leap. In the afternoon, choose between snorkeling at Pigeon Island or simply relaxing on the beach.

Drive south along the scenic coastline to Pasikuda, known for its shallow bay. Settle into your beachfront resort and enjoy the calm waters. Swim in the turquoise sea or lounge by the pool. As the sun sets, watch the horizon glow in warm colors.

Spend the day at your own pace on Pasikuda’s wide sandy shores. Swim in the warm waters or try gentle water sports like kayaking or snorkeling. Families can enjoy the shallow lagoon that feels like a natural pool.

Leave the coast and journey inland to Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore ancient temples, palaces, and the impressive Gal Vihara stone statues. Learn about the city that was once a thriving royal capital. Rest overnight near the ruins after a full day of history.

Travel into Sri Lanka’s rural heartland at Mahiyanganaya. Visit the revered Mahiyangana Temple and hear stories about its Buddhist significance. Meet local villagers and witness traditional crafts passed down through generations.

Immerse yourself in the local way of life. Take part in a village walk, visit farmlands, and join a cooking session to prepare authentic local dishes. Relax by the riverside or take a gentle nature walk in the evening.

Drive through scenic hill country roads toward Kandy. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, an important Buddhist site. Explore Kandy Lake and the bustling city markets before spending a peaceful evening at your hotel.

Depart from Kandy and make your way to Colombo. Stop at spice gardens or local craft shops along the way. Enjoy an evening city drive or a farewell dinner in the capital.
